There are a number of common gastrointestinal conditions, disorders and diseases that may cause problems. These include:

Functional (non-ulcer) dyspepsia

Functional dyspepsia is defined as one or more of: bothersome postprandial fullness, early satiation, upper abdominal pain, upper abdominal burning and no evidence of structural disease (including at gastroscopy) likely to explain symptoms. These criteria should be fulfilled for the last 3 months with symptom onset at least 6 months before diagnosis. Treatment includes proton-pump inhibitors, Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy, antidepressants, prokinetic agents, dietary advice and reassurance.
