Meckel's scan

A "Meckel's diverticulum" is a pouch in the side of the small bowel occuring in about 1-3% of the population; sometimes the lining of this pouch contains gastric mucosa instead of the normal small bowel lining which can lead to ulceration and bleeding; a Meckels scan is used to look for the presence of this gastric mucosa in the small bowel.
